How to Select a Laser Cladding Head for Internal Bore Applications
Internal bore processing places strict limits on head diameter, working distance, cooling and material delivery. The correct configuration begins with the workpiece rather than the laser head alone.
1. Confirm the Bore Geometry
Provide the minimum bore diameter, processing depth, access direction and any internal steps or shoulders. These dimensions determine the available optical and mechanical envelope.
2. Match the Process Method
Powder-fed cladding, wire-fed deposition and laser hardening have different nozzle, shielding and spot-shape requirements. The target layer width and finish allowance also affect the optical design.
3. Verify Laser and Interface Conditions
Laser wavelength, power, fiber connector, cooling capacity and robot or machine interface must be confirmed before selection.
4. Review Stability and Maintenance
Consider protection-window access, powder or wire stability, shielding gas, contamination control and the ability to align and service the head.
